He married , , Veda Leola Tiffany, daughter of Arthur L. Tiffany and Ella Frances Wright. She was born Jul 1908, Bloomfield, Ontario, New York, and died Jan 10 1968, Rochester, Monroe, New York.

Dewey Edward Whitney was born on 25 Mar 1898 in Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana, USA as the fourth child of Rollin E. Whitney and Rhoda Herrick. He had five siblings, namely: Walter R., (Daughter), Leon Clifford, Alvin F., and Leona M.. He died on 08 Apr 1944 in Rochester, Monroe, New York, USA (Suicide). His cause of death was Death - Suicide in Rochester, Monroe, New York, USA. Race: (White) He lived in Hammond, Lake, Indiana, USA in 1900 (Age: 3; Marital Status: Single; Relation to Head of House: Son). He lived in Guymon, Texas, Oklahoma, USA in 1910 (Age: 12; Marital Status: Single; Relation to Head of House: Son). He lived in Allegany, New York, USA between 1917-1918 (Age: 19). Following a thorough research it would be conclusive that Dewey was a definite family man and retained good jobs when young, despite the suicide. Up to his death - there were many articles in the local newspaper (hometown of his wife) indicating; family gatherings, parties, picnics, etc. The 2 years prior to his death, he in fact lost loved ones and close relations. I believe this was one of the causes.
Due to a COPD disability and no longer working, genealogy became an ideal hobby to absorb some of the many hours that are idle during the day. You will find that my ancestry includes the Tiffany lineage on my fathers side. It is interesting to see that they originated from the same area in Hereford England and 300 years later they again connected. My Grandmother - Ella Frances Reed Wright was also a hobbyist in genealogy and published a book on the Tiffany's. You will find that this book is consolidated and a part of my family tree. (It is nice to see how the tree branches over time )

I am currently expanding my tree on both MyHeritage and Ancestry networks - to include the other Whitney Families up to the early 1900's.Italic text If you sit down and browse the siblings of my ancestry - there are many large families and from prominence or political backgrounds. The challenges in verifying or providing supporting proof is the aspect of the hobby I enjoy! I have seen many public tree's on both networks that contains faulty and misleading facts: wrong spouse/s, births and death dates discrepancies, children born before parents, etc. It is hard to believe the owners of these tree's accomplishes nothing by merging files without confirming the data!

Both tree's are private, however, a relation or specific requests (WRG Member seeking info) will always get access!

Welcome!
Bob,

Thank you for becoming a member of the Whitney Research Group, and for posting your lineage.

I would like to know what information you have which connects the William Whitney with wife Roxana M. -----, of Sheldon, VT, in 1850, with William P. Whitney with wife Roxa Arvilla Kinsman, of Rochester, VT, in 1860. The former was aged 27, and the latter was born 12 Feb 1825, so their ages are not quite a match. Sheldon and Rochester are not near each other, the former being in northwest Vermont, near the Canadian border, and Rochester near the center of the state. Frederick Clifton Pierce, in his Descendants of John Whitney, in his sketch of William P. Whitney, has no mention of more than one wife or a son Rollin. While it is possible that they are the same, it seems to me that some further evidence is needed to make that identification beyond what is in the census records.
Rollin Whitney - Parentage (William Whitney)
Hi Robert,
You will find that my GG-Father Rollin, is a challenge to trace. There are 3-Rollins that can be easily confused, 2-Rollin E and Rollin W
are from Vermont and in the similar age era. There are records that I know of indicating a total of 4 Rollin Whitneys for his era. (There is one record shows Rollin living with a " Pond family and in a census confirming it.) There is a Rollin E married to a Maude " and homesteaded in Iowa along with Rollin W. My ancestor in question was married to a Rhoda Herrick in Michigan. Off hand I can't remember which archived record it was - indicating born in Vermont and fathers name as William (I will go through my collection of archive copies shortly)!!

Rollin E, my ancestor had children: Walter, Leon, Dewey, Alvin and Leona. The 1900,1910,1920 census confirms this! From this point these facts are confirmed and of course verified. You will find William P married June 1843 to a Rosanna or Roxanna (unk)at age 17. He also married a Roxanna Arvilla Kinsman in Sep 1852, which would place him at 27 yrs old. There are no records located of his first wife after this point, except the possibility of being adopted or living with the "Pond" family - the Family Search Website archives verifies this!!

I have gone to the extent of segregating all William Whitney's from Vermont and from same approximate era and track accordingly. This branch of my ancestry is the only apparent conflict and without confirmation! What does show a different outlook is the record of Rollin that stayed with the "Pond" family, which means either orphaned or simply living with others at the time!

Due to a disability and no longer working, genealogy became an ideal hobby. You will find that my ancestry includes the Tiffany and Whitney lineage on my fathers side. It is interesting to see that they originated from the same area in England and 300 years later they connected. My Grandmother - Ella Frances Reed Wright was also a hobbyist in genealogy and published a book on the Tiffany's.

I am currently expanding my tree on both MyHeritage and Ancestry networks - to include other Whitney Families. I have seen many public tree's on both networks that contains faulty and misleading facts: wrong spouse/s, births and death dates discrepancies, children born before parents, etc. It is hard to believe the owners of these tree's accomplishes nothing by merging files without confirming the data! Both tree's are private, however, there are exceptions - A WRG Member seeking info!
