I inherited the work that my aunts had started on our family tree. It was sketchy and incomplete, but essentially correct and provable. In 2006 I was able to prove Mayflower lineage through Phebe Whitney's mother, Mary Holman, for this complete line. I am now working on Jonathan Barrett's extensive Revolutionary War pension records and papers with the DAR. John Warner and John Warner, Jr. also fought and their papers are in Maine. The movement of this family from Massachusetts to frontier upper New York State in the early 1800's was a difficult and definite dividing line for resources.

Phebe must have died within a short time of having her last child, Jonathan Barrett, Jr. who was baptized on July 5, 1791 in Harvard vital records being the "son of Jonathan Barrett" only.

It appears that Jonathan Sr remarried Ruth Houghton on December 31, 1793 and they raised their children together. According to the Harvard vital records, Jonathan, Jr and Mary Hodgman's intentions of marriage were recorded in Harvard, MA on September 12, 1817 and in Bolton, MA on September 9, 1817.

Jonathan Jr. and Mary then moved up the Connecticut Valley to Cavendish, Vermont in the 1830 census, and to Athol, Warren County, NY by 1840 where they settled and raised their children. Jonathan Sr. expressively named his son, Jonathan Jr. and wife Mary of "Athol in the County of Warren & State of New York" in his will which was filed November 13, 1849 in Worcester County, Massachusetts. Jonathan Jr. died January 31, 1863 and Mary, September 30, 1865. They both rest in the Reynolds Cemetery in Thurman, NY.

Jonathan and Mary's only son, Jonathan Warner Barrett, was born in 1828, possibly on family's journey to Cavendish. No birth record has yet been found. The transfer of land from father to son is recorded, however. Jonathan Warner lived his entire life in Warren County, NY. He married Cynthia Sarah Moriah Baker abt 1847. I have not found that record, yet, either. However, they are recorded as a family in the 1850, 1855, 1860, 1870, 1880 1890, 1900 census. They had 10 children. In their later years they both were admitted to the Warren County Almshouse in Warrensburg, NY because of old age. Jonathan died there on November 23, 1900 and is buried in the Almshouse cemetery with a marker. Cynthia was discharged and went to live with family members in Vermont. She died in Reading, Vt, on August 17, 1905 and is buried in the Brown Schoolhouse Cemetery in West Windsor.

Their son, Thomas Clark Barrett, was born in Warren County, NY and married Lovissa Irene Newton on April 26, 1886 who was also born in Warren County, NY. Their marriage is recorded in Warren City/Stony Creek, NY. They moved to Woodstock, VT and the majority of their 8 children were born in Vermont. Their youngest child, Lilly, married Roy Pitts on August 1, 1925 and had 5 children. She died on October 12, 1942. Thomas, Lovissa, Lilly Ann and Roy are all buried in the Spafford Cemetery in North Clarendon, VT.
