Samuel is his correct name. A marriage was recorded in Hamilton County> Ohio for "Samuel" Whitney and Rachel Miller on 25 April 1835. It does not seem that this could be a coincidence. See "Ohio Marriages 1800-1858", although it has been claimed by some of Rachels Husted descendants that his name was Daniel c. Whitney However 1840 only a year after his death, Mary Whitney Anderson, the daughter of William Warren Whitney (1786-1850) and Nancy Jane Simpson, named her first son Samuel Whitney Anderson. This could not be just a coincidence. It circumstantially proves that his name was Samuel, together with the fact that Samuel named his son, William Warren Whitney, after his father.

I am not sure the William Warren shown here is the son of Nathan. The civil war enlistment record shows this William (my GGGF) born in Hamilton Ohio in 1837-The city of Hamilton is in Butler County, the next county to the north from Hamilton County. If he was born in Hamilton County, I think it likely that he would have given Cincinnati as his place of birth when he enlisted, so while It I certainly possible that he is the son of Nathan, I think we need more evidence. I wish I knew the source of the information regarding the birth of this William in Hamiolton County in 1838. Doug Whitney whitney.doug@gmail.com

Sarah E. Who died in 1869, is surely one of the twin girls that was born to William and Lucinda on about 10 August 1867 when they were living in Missouri I have his letter announcing their birth as well as Lucindas' death on 25 August 1867

am not sure the William Warren shown here is the son of Nathan. The civil war enlistment record shows this William (my GGGF) born in Hamilton Ohio in 1837-The city of Hamilton is in Butler County, the next county to the north from Hamilton County. If he was born in Hamilton County, I think it likely that he would have given Cincinnati as his place of birth when he enlisted, so while It I certainly possible that he is the son of Nathan, I think we need more evidence. I am not sure the William Warren shown here is the same. The civil war enlistment record shows him born in Hamilton Ohio in 1837-The city of Hamilton is in Butler County, the next county to the north from Hamilton County.
