Whitney, Henry

His English origin is unknown, the ancestry assigned to him in the splendid genealogy by Phoenix having proved false.

A miller; bought at Southold, L. I., 8 Oct. 1649, with Edward Treadwell and Thomas Benedict. He rem. by 1658 to Huntington, L. I.

He m. (1) -----; m. (2) Sarah, widow of Edward Ketchum of Stratford. In 1660 he objected to Joseph Whitman as suitor to his dau. [stepdau.] Sarah Ketchum. He rem. abt. 1662 to Jamaica, L. I., and by 1665 to Norwalk, where he d. in 1673.

Will 5 June 1672; wife; son John; Thomas Benedict, Sr., Walter Hoyt, and Thomas Fitch, Sr., my beloved brethren and friends, overseers. Inv. 8 Nov. 1673.

A miller; had a grant of land in Southold, L. I., 1666; rem. to Norwalk with his father. He m. (rec. Norwalk) 17 Mar. 1674/5, Elizabeth Smith, dau. of Richard; she d. after 3 Apr. 1741.

Adm'n. granted, 11 Oct. 1720, to son-in-law Joseph Keeler.

He built a mill at Sasco River, but by 1714 settled in Stratfield.
