early age he entered a law office in Fitchburg, Mass., and was admitted to the bar in 1845. After a brief practice in Fitchburg, Mass., he moved to Baltimore, where he was eminently successful as an able lawyer. In 1854 he was chosen county attorney and re-elected in 1858. In 1860 he resigned, and later conducted many trials that are historic in that state. As a criminal lawyer he was not excelled. Modest and unas- suming, he seldom referred to his achievements, or appeared conscious of the magnitude of his labor. He d. Sept. 3, 1875; res. Baltimore, Md. 4098.
