At the age of 17 he took a subordinate position in a party of locating engineers on the Chicago and Alton Railroad in Mis- souri and when 20 years of age was resident engineer on the Denver and New Orleans railroad in Colorado. He devoted his time to railroad construction in Missouri and the states and territories west as far as Arizona till 1885, when he turned his attention to municipal engineering, and is now engaged in the engineering department of the Board of Public Works of Kansas City, Mo., res.
