Seventh Generation.
in Nov. 1875, in the hamlet of Rutsonville, in Gardiner, N.Y., close to the east foot of Shawangunk Mountain, with her daughter, Mrs. Anna Margaret (Merritt) Ronk. She was still a member of the Marlborough Monthly Meeting of Friends, held at the Valley, in Plattekill.
1611 III. Sarah Whitney, b. in Ulster Co., N.Y., 6 March 1794; married at 5308 Modena , in Plattekill, N.Y., Harman Terwilliger, a farmer, who was born in Plattekill, 4 Aug. 1799, son of Harmanus and Elizabeth (Ostrander) Terwilliger. They settled at Pleasant Valley, in Plattekill, and, in 1828, removed to New York City, where he was engaged in the lumber trade till 1836, when they returned to Pleasant Valley. He was a member of the Baptist Church; and she, though born a Friend, went with him to Baptist meeting for many years, but, in the latter part of her life, resumed the Friends' garb, and returned to the meeting. They spent the last part of their lives at Rossville, about six miles north-west of Newburgh, N.Y., where she died, 1 Feb. 1858, in her 64th year, and he, 19 Dec. 1859. They were buried in the Friends' Cemetery at Pleasant Valley, and his gravestone shows that he was son of "Haramaunis Terwilliger", and gives the date of his birth. Her gravestone calls her name "Sarah Ann". She also signed in that form, as witness to the marriage of her brother, James Whitney. 5308
1612 IV. Jessee Whitney, b. in Cornwall, N.Y., 29 Ap. 1796; a farmer; married in May 1819, at Rochester, Ulster Co., N.Y., by the pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Rochester, to Eveline Simkins, who was born at Pleasant Valley, in Plattekill, N.Y., 9 March 1804, dau. of Silas Simkins. He settled about two miles west of Pleasant Valley; and moved, in 1831, to Rosendale, N.Y., and thence, in April 1833, to Fairport, in Perinton, N.Y., where she died of consumption, 22 Oct. 1851, and was buried in the old cemetery near the Congregational Church in that village. He married (2nd), 19 May 1853, at Palmyra, N.Y., Harriet McKinstry, who was born in Phelps, N.Y., 5 Nov. 1817, dau. of Paul and Betsey (Pratt) McKinstry, and widow of Jesse Simkins. They were living at Fairport, in 1873. 5309
