Christian, to Elmina Waterman, dau. of Ambrose and Huldah (Sanford) Waterman, of Napoli, formerly of Vermont, where she was born, 5 July 1813. They dwelt in Ellington, N. Y., till 30 Ap. 1855; and then moved to Kennedy, N. Y., where she died 10 Aug. 1862, and was buried in Ellington. He was married (2d), at Cherry Creek, N. Y., 24 Sept. 1863, by Elder Harvey Totman, Christian, to Jane Wolcott, dau. of Charles Taylor and Rebecca (Ensign) Wolcott, of Poland, N. Y., formerly of Pine Grove, Penn., where she was born 15 Nov. 1827. They were living at Kennedy in Ap. 1874. His four sons, all who were living, were in the, army at the

same time, during the war of 1861.

2692 V. Ira Loyal Gates, b. in Malone, N. Y., 9 Aug. 1808; a farmer; married in Ellington, N. Y., 1 Jan. 1829, Louisa Priscilla Billings, dau. of Nathan and Abigail (Holden) Billings, of Ellington, formerly of Cambridge, Vt., where she was born, 18 July 1805. They dwelt in Ellington for three years; in Poland, N. Y., for sixteen years; and then returned to Ellington, where they were living in May 1874. 7867
2693 VI. Ransom Gates, b. in Malone, N. Y., 24 Aug. 1810; married at Ellington, N. Y., 3 Jan. 1830, Sophronia Ash; had a second wife, whose name has not been ascertained; and died, 16 March 1854, at Westford, Wis., and was buried there. 7871
2694 VII. Lorison Gates, b. in Malone, N. Y., 3 March 1813; a minister of the "Christian" Church; married in Ellington, N. Y., 4 Dec. 1834, by Rev, Freeman Maiden, Christian, to Salome Parker Felt, of Ellington,1 who was born in Cavendish, Vt., 11 Oct. 1815, dau. of ----- and Ruth (Hildreth) Felt. They dwelt in Ellington in 1835; in Conewango, N. Y., in 1836; in Norwalk, Ohio, from 1837 to 1844; in Munson, Ohio, till the Spring of 1846; in Kirtland, Ohio, till the Autumn of 1853; and then settled in Porter, Indiana, where she died, 3 Jan. 1869, and was buried in Porter Cemetery. He was married (2d), 25 May 1869, at Cedar Creek, Indiana, by Rev. William S. Manvill, Christian, to Minerva Salisbury, dau. of David and Hannah (Yates) Salisbury, of Conneaut, Penn., and widow of Philip Reed. She was born in Genesee Co., N. Y., 28 March 1815. They were living at Porter, near Valparaiso post-office, in May 1874. 7879
2695 VIII. Clarissa Elmina Gates, b. in Malone, N. Y., 30 Aug. 1815; married at Jamestown, N. Y., 26 Jan. 1837, by ----- Waite, Esq., of Jamestown, to Hovey Colburn, a farmer, son of Jonathan and Lydia (Page) Colburn, of Plainfield, N. Y., where he was born 21 Dec. 1812. They settled in Poland, N. Y., 28 Feb. 1837; and were living there in May 1874. 7887
  1 Her mother was then living in Ellington with her second husband, David Munger. Her father died in Bethany, N.Y., when she was nine years old.
