IX. Jonathan Miles Whitney, b. at Montville, Ohio, 1 July 1843. He enlisted, 24 Ap. 1861, in Co. F, 19th Reg., Ohio Volunteers, and served till 30 Aug. 1861, taking part in the battle of Rich Mountain, Va., 11 July 1861. He reenlisted, for three years, the last of Aug. 1862, in Co. E, 105th Reg., Ohio Volunteers; was captured 30 Aug. 1862, on the retreat to Louisville; was paroled 4 Sept. 1862; was exchanged the last of Feb. 1862, at Columbus, Ohio; and was discharged at Louisville, Ky. He reenlisted, 4 March 1863, in Co. G, 1st Mississippi Marine Brigade; served as hospital-steward on several gunboats, during the siege of Vicksburgh, till June 1863, when he was invalided, and sent to Cairo, Ill., for treatment. After an illness of three weeks, he was assigned to duty at the post-hospital, and was transferred, 10 Sept. 1863, to U. S. general hospital at Cleveland, Ohio, where he served till discharged, 1 June 1865. He then lived at Hampden, Ohio, till Dec. 1869, and since that at Montville, where he is engaged in business as nurseryman. He married at Hampden, 13 Nov. 1863, Amelia Quiggle; married (2d), 26 Nov. 1873, at 12 Lincoln Street, Portland, Mich., by Rev. A. P. Moore, Methodist, to Emerett Catharine Brace, dau. of William Harris and Malvina (Rockafellow) Brace, of Great Barrington, Mass., where she was born 18 March 1845.

Lurena Frederika Whitney, b. at Montville, Ohio, 9 Jan. 1850; married at her father's house in Montville, 22 July 1868, James Lyman Batchelder, a farmer, son of Lyman Skinner and Selina (Belden) Batchelder, of Montville, where he was born 30 Oct. 1846. They settled at Montville, and were living there in 1874.
