p. 37, #189: Joshua4 WHITNEY married Amy BLODGETT. It was his first cousin Joshua4 WHITNEY [William3, Joshua2, John1], #176 on page 58, who married Anna BLODGETT. This remarkable conjunction of similar names is a source of much confusion.

p. 37, #190: Elizabeth4 WHITNEY married Elijah STANTON, 18 Apr 1739, Preston, CT. They had five children born in Preston, CT, and two more in Sheffield, MA.

p. 37, #193: Mary4 WHITNEY died 27 Jun 1729, according to Plainfield vital records.

p. 37, #195: Solomon4 WHITNEY married Sarah ROBERTS.

p. 37, #65: John3 WHITNEY married secondly, 14 Jan 1730/1, Kittery, ME, Susannah (BARTON) SMITH, widow of Solomon SMITH, according to Kittery vital records. Probably it was he and Anne BRATT of Biddeford who published their intentions of marriage 3 Oct 1730, Kittery.

p. 37, #196: Mary4 WHITNEY was born 12 Mar 1705/6, according to Kittery, ME, vital records.

p. 37, #197: Samuel4 WHITNEY married Lydia SPOONER.

p. 37, #199: Hannah4 WHITNEY married Thomas FERNALD, Jr., 16 Nov 1733, Kittery, ME, according to Kittery vital records. They had eight children born in Kittery.

p. 37, #201: Two marriage intentions are shown in the vital records of Kittery for a Mehitable Whitney, one dated 20 Sep 1735 to a Stephen AMME, both of Kittery; and one dated 2 Apr 1737 to a Isaac WINCOLL, both of Kittery. No actual marriage is recorded, nor is any record of children to either such couple found.

p. 37, #202: John4 WHITNEY was born 14 May 1719, not 4 May 1719, according to York vital records.

p. 37, #66: The order of children is confused.

p. 37, #204: I have found no record of the death of Lydia4 WHITNEY.

p. 37, #205: I have found no record of the death of Lydia4 WHITNEY.

p. 37, #206: His name should be Nathan4 WHITNEY, not Naham, according to York vital records.

p. 37, #207: His wife was named Hannah DAY, not Molly DAY.

p. 37, #208: His wife was named Mary CANE, not Mary CRANE.

p. 37, #209: Sarah4 WHITNEY and Jeremiah SIMPSON had two children born in York, according to York vital records. She married secondly John LARRABEE, according to McLellan's History of Gorham. I have found no other record of this fact.

p. 37, #210: Isaac4 WHITNEY married secondly Hannah PAYNE, and thirdly, Mrs. Mary WALKER.

p. 37, #211: Amos4 WHITNEY married secondly Hannah (BLAKE) JOHNSON.

p. 37, #212: Joanna4 WHITNEY renewed her baptismal covenant, 7 Sep 1766, Kittery, ME. That is the last record found of her.

p. 37, #66: There was another child not listed by Pierce:

  • John4 WHITNEY, born 27 Nov 1716, Sherborn, MA. He was a physician, and married firstly, 20 Sep 1739, Eastham, MA, Jerusha KNOWLES. They had three children recorded at Eastham, MA, probably a fourth not recorded, and possibly a fifth baptized in Kittery, ME. He married secondly about 1746, Margaret (COFFIN) GARDNER of Nantucket, MA, widow of Seth GARDNER. They had three children recorded in Kittery, ME. He married thirdly, about 1753, Hepzibah (ADAMS) ADAMS, widow of Richard ADAMS. They had two children recorded in York, ME.

p. 37, #67: Jonathan3 WHITNEY married, 14 Jan 1700/1, Medfield, MA, Susannah FAIRBANKS (not Susannah WHITNEY), born 17 Mar 1682, Medfield, daughter of George and Susannah (-----) FAIRBANKS.
