Malden was formed from the Mystic Side section of Charlestown in 1649. Further land was gotten from Charlestown in 1726. Parts were given to Reading in 1727, Stoneham in 1734, and Medford in 1817. Parts were split off as Melrose in 1850 and Everett in 1870. Territory was gained from Medford in 1877, and again in 1910.
