Alexander Whitney (James, [poss.] Isaac4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of James and Deborah (Murch) Whitney, was born Mar 1788, Gorham, ME, and died 15 Oct 1871, Yarmouth, ME, aged 83 years 6 months.[1] He was buried at Morrison's Hill, West Cumberland, ME.

Marriage intentions were published 23 Dec 1817, North Yarmouth, ME, for him and Barbara Winslow "of Falmouth".[2] He married 8 Feb 1818, North Yarmouth and Cumberland, ME, Barbara Winslow,[3] daughter of Captain Hezekiah and Phebe (Doughty) Winslow. She was born 6 Aug 1792, Falmouth, ME, and died 19 Mar 1870, West Yarmouth, ME, aged 77 years 7 months[4] of valvular disease of the heart.[5] She was buried at Morrison's Hill, West Cumberland, ME.

He had a pension for service in the War of 1812.

iv. Aurelia Whitney, b. 4 Oct 1824, Cumberland, ME; m. 25 Dec 1846, Gray, ME, Hiram Humphrey. They are both buried in the Universalist Cemetery, Cumberland, ME.
v. Minerva Whitney, b. 29 Apr 1828, Cumberland, ME; m. 18 May 1848, Cumberland, ME, Gardner Leighton.[6]
vi. Sewall Whitney, b. 13 Apr 1830, Cumberland, ME; bapt. 30 Apr 1830, North Yarmouth, ME; m. Georianna Blanchard.
vii. Phebe Whitney, b. 1 Aug 1832, Cumberland, ME; d. 1913; prob. the Phebe Whitney who m. Eben Hulit, b. 1822, d. 1894. Both are buried in the Universalist Cemetery, Cumberland, ME.

Barbara Winslow was a descendant of "Mayflower" pilgrim John Howland (and so Elizabeth Tilley and her parents John and Joan [Hurst][Rogers] Tilley):
