Artemas Hammond7 Whitney (John Smith6, Thomas5, Thomas4, Eleazer3, Thomas2, John1), son of John Smith6 and Susanna (Knowlton) Whitney, was born 14 Jan 1797, Shrewsbury, MA,[1] and died 12 Oct 1875, Ludlow, MA [Pierce], or 11 Oct 1875, Ludlow, MA, aged 77 years 8 months 27 days, of dropsy.[2]

Marriage intentions were published 12 Dec 1819, Petersham, MA, for him and Nabby Skinner "of Dana".[3] He "of Petersham" married firstly, 30 Dec 1819, Dana, MA, Nabby Skinner.[4] She was born 12 Aug 1797, Palmer, MA, and died 22 Apr 1859 [Pierce] or "Abby" 20 Apr 1859, Ludlow, MA, aged 62 years, of dropsy.[5]

He married secondly, 27 Dec 1860, Caroline M. Alden, daughter of Benjamin and Polly (Hodges) Alden. She was born 26 Jun 1815, Greenwich, MA, and died 8 Sep 1885, Belchertown, MA, aged 70 years, of typhoid fever.[6]

He was a farmer. He resided Dana and Ludlow, MA.

vi. Mary L. Whitney, b. 18 Dec 1838; m. 23 Dec 1857, Ludlow, MA, John Byron Stewart, b. ca. 1834, Ludlow, MA, son of Edward Stewart.[7] He is a carpenter; resided Millbury, MA; has one son, Frank.
