Benjamin5 Whitney (James4, John3, Jonathan2, John1), son of Dea. James4 and Martha (Rice) Whitney, was born 23 Oct 1727, Sherborn, MA,[1] and died 17 Dec 1793, Sherborn, MA.[2]

He married firstly, 18 Apr 1751, Sherborn, MA, Esther Leland,[3] daughter of Joseph and Esther (Thurston) Leland. She was born 31 Jul 1728, Sherborn, MA.

He "of Sherborn" married secondly, 9 Feb 1792, Mendon, MA, Mary Fairbanks "of Mendon".[4] She was born say 1730-1750, and died 23 Apr 1804, Upton, MA. Marriage intentions were published on 10 May 1795, Upton, MA, for her "Mrs." "of Mendon" and "Capt." Robert Taft,[5] as his second wife. She married secondly, 11 Jun 1795, Mendon, MA, Capt. Robert Taft "of Upton".[6]

Will of Benjamin Whitney of Sherburn, yeoman, dated 25 Jan 1793:

  • wife Mary whitney,
  • son James Whitney (also executor)
  • son Joseph Whitney

Witnesses: Daniel Whitney, Aaron Whitney, Caleb Lealand. Proved 3 Apr 1794.

Executor's bond, 3 Apr 1794, by James Whitney, yeoman, with Daniel Whitney, Esq., and Aaron Whitney, yeoman, sureties, all of Sherburn.

Inv. taken 10 Nov 1794 by Jonathan Fay, Timothy Hill, and Silas Stone.

Release of widow Mary Whitney of Mendon to all claim to the estate, 12 Nov 1794.

2 Apr 1796, acknowledgment by widow Mary Whitney, now Mary Taft.

Division and agreement between James Whitney and Joseph Whitney, yeomen, both of Sherburne, sons of Benjamin Whitney, late of said Sherburne, yeoman, deceased, dated 19 Sep 1796.[7]

Rev. Abner Morse's History and Genealogy of the Towns of Sherborn and Holliston, Mass., p. 258: "... settled in W. Sherborn where Capt. Curtis Golding resides."

Children of Benjamin5 and Esther (Leland) Whitney, both born Sherborn, MA:

i. James6 Whitney, b. 21 Oct 1755;[8] m. Susanna Hill.
ii. Joseph Whitney, b. 15 Dec 1762;[9] m. Sarah Park.

Benjamin5 and Mary (Fairbanks) Whitney had no children.
