Charles Henry7 Whitney (Jonathan6, Timothy5, Jonas4, Moses3, Richard2, John1), son of Jonathan6 and Dolly (Smith) Whitney, was born 25 Jan 1824, Cayuga, NY.

He married, Jun 1852, Chicago, IL, Elizabeth Lowe, daughter of Capt. Samuel J. Lowe, sheriff of Cook County, Illinois, in 1839.

Capt. Samuel J. Lowe was High Constable of Cook County, Illinois, in 1839, for three years; first assisant engineer of the Chicago Fire Department. In 1840 he was captain of the local military company. In 1842, as sheriff, he sold the first and, I think, only black man, Edwin Heathcock, at public sale for the munificent sum of 25 cents to M. D. Ogden.[1]

Charles Henry Whitney is a well known resident at Dansville, NY, and has followed agricultural pursuits all his life. He was one of the founders of the town of Fairbanks, FL, where at one time he owned and extensive orange grove; resided Dansville, NY.

i. Fannie L.8 Whitney, b. 1 Feb 1855; m. 9 Jun 1879, Edward F. Gorton; resided s. p. Lake Forest, IL. Attorney at law, 107 Dearborn Street, Chicago, IL. He was born Ashtabula, OH, 6 May 1854. He was brought up in Rochester, NY, where he attended the public schools, and graduated at Wilson's private school. In 1871 he went to Columbus, where he remained until 1883, when he went to Chicago. He studied law at the Union College of Law, and was graduated with honors in Jun 1876, and was at once admitted to the bar and began practice. He is an able and successful advocate and counselor.
ii. George William Whitney, b. 19 Nov 1865; unmarried; resided Dansville, NY. He is a native of Dansville, and is the proprietor of one of the most extensive nurseries in the state; m. ca. 1887, Jessie L. H. -----, b. Apr 1865, NY,
