Rev. Elbert Watson9 Whitney, B. A., B. D. (Samuel8, Samuel7, Asa6, Levi5, Daniel4, Jonathan3, Jonathan2, John1), son of Samuel8 Whitney and Lydia (Stowell) Whitney, was born 8 Dec 1849, Nashua, NH, and died 23 Jun or 6 Sep 1932, Nelson, NH.

He married, 8 Sep 1875, Quincy, MA, or Waltham, MA (by his brother Rev. George W. Whitney), Mary Frances French, daughter of Dr. Charles S. and Dorothea (-----) French.[1] She was born 13 Jun 1854, Quincy, MA, and died after 1930.

Elbert Watson Whitney, of Milford, MA, was born at Nashua, NH, 8 Dec 1849. He removed to Waltham, MA, in 1864 and graduated from the high school in 1869. Entering Tuft's college (Medford, MA) he received the degree of B. A. in 1873, and of B. D. in 1875. In college he was class prophet, and gave two poems at the anniversaries of the Mathetican society. 1 Jul 1875, he was ordained pastor of the First Parish church of Saugus, MA, founded in 1732. April, 1876, he accepted a call to Peabody, MA. He was a member of the school committee until his removal to Brattleboro, VT, in Jan 1880. Here he was one of the men who established the Brattleboro free library (of which he was trustee till his removal from town) and the Professional club. Apr 1887, he accepted a call to the First Universalist church of Cincinnati, OH, and was a trustee of the Ohio Universalist convention while he remained in the state. Nov 1890, he became pastor of the Milford, MA, Universalist church, organized in 1785. A considerable numbers of his sermons and addresses have been published in secular and religious papers; resided Milford, MA.

i. Mabel10 Whitney, b. 27 May 1876, Peabody, MA.[2] She received an excellent common school education and is now (1894) in Smith college.
ii. Arthur Bryant Whitney, b. 8 Jul 1878, Peabody, MA;[3] was educated at the public schools and fitted for college, and in 1895 entered Tuft's college, his father's alma mater.
