Capt. Ephraim6 Whitney (Joel5, Abel4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Joel5 and Mary (Weston) Whitney; born 7 Nov 1770, Jonesboro, ME, and died 16 Apr 1858, Jonesboro, ME.

He married, 14 June 1795, Machias, ME[1] (also recorded Columbia, ME[2]), Sarah Noyes, daughter of Josiah and Eunice (Moors) Noyes. She was born 14 Jul 1779, North Yarmouth, ME, and died 12 Oct 1857, Jonesboro, ME. Both Ephraim and Sarah are buried in the Porter Whitney (Village) Cemetery in Jonesboro.

He was the first white child born in Chandler's River, now Jonesboro, ME, the eldest son of his parents. He married there and settled on a farm, where he died. Besides being a husbandman he was a merchant and did quite an extensive business. He erected the Kennebec mill, was representative in the General Court in 1810, member of the Constitutional convention of 1820, and representative in 1823. He resided Jonesboro, ME.
