Family:Whitney, Ephraim (1771-1830)

Ephraim6 Whitney (Aaron5, Samuel4, Richard3, John2, Henry1), son of Aaron5 and Hannah (Turney) Whitney,[1] was born 23 Mar 1771, Fairfield, CT,[2] and died 26 Dec 1830, Patterson, NY.[3]

He married about 1796, Sarah Wixon,[4] daughter of John and Jemima (Barrett) Wixon.[5] She was born 24 Apr 1780, Peekskill, NY,[6] and died 14 Jul 1856, Patterson, NY, aged 76 years 2 months 20 days.[7]

Phoenix says the following:

. . . a weaver's reed maker . . . . He first settled at West Milltown, in Kent, N.Y.; thence moved to Southeast, about a mile west of Dykeman's Station, N.Y.; and from there to Patterson, about two miles north of Dykeman's Station, where they died (he, 26 Dec. 1830; she, 14 July 1856, aged 76 years, 2 months, and 20 days), and were buried in the cemetery near the Baptist Church, at Towner's Corners, N.Y., one mile west of Towner's Station.

Isaac Whitney, b. 31 Dec 1803, Franklin, NY; m. 19 Mar 1829, Ramapo, NY, Martha (Youry) Quackenbush, b. 31 Aug 1806, Ramapo, NY, d. aft. 1880, dau. of Jonas and Jane (Tinkey) Youry, and widow of John Quackenbush. He was "a farmer . . . . He settled, 1 Jan 1828, at Spring Valley, NY; where they were living in 1874, near the railway-station, without children."
iv. Julia Whitney, b. 4 Oct 1807, Franklin, NY; "lived with her sister, Mrs. Mary (Whitney) Gray, in Candor (Jenksville post-office), N. Y., in 1873, unmarried."
v. Hannah Whitney, b. 19 Aug 1810, Patterson, NY; d. 2 Apr 1811, Patterson, NY; was buried at Carmel, N. Y., in a small burial-place that has since been included in a storage reservoir for the Croton Water Works..
vi. Gershom Turney Whitney, b. 9 May 1812, Patterson, NY; m.(1) Sarah Davis; m.(2) ----- -----.
vii. Mary Whitney, b. 2 Jan 1814, Patterson, NY; m. Daniel Gay.
viii. Joshua Whitney, b. 20 Oct 1815, Patterson, NY; m. Catharine Bell.
ix. Susan Whitney, b. 26 Mar 1821, Patterson, NY; a milliner; married at Pawling, NY, by Rev. Aaron L. Culver, Methodist, 19 Sep 1869, as a second wife, George Eastwood, a farmer, of Patterson, born at Pawling, 29 Jan 1819, son of Elijah and Sally (Turner) Eastwood. They lived at Patterson in 1874. She had no children.

Notes

The 1830 and 1840 censuses suggest a daughter, born 1820-1825, in the family of the son Isaac. She was Jane M. Quackenbush, Martha's daughter by her first husband, b. ca. 1824, NY. She married Jan 1842, Spring Valley, NY, John Stephen Van Orden, and named her two children Martha E. and Isaac, after her mother and step-father.
