Freeman Pembroke7 Whitney (Thaddeus6, Enos5, John4, Richard3, John2, Henry1), son of Thaddeus6 and Thirza (Washburn) Whitney, was born 25 Jul 1833, Gibson, PA, and died 1 Feb 1919, Jermyn, Lackawanna Co., PA.

He married, 26 Sep 1855, Ararat, PA, Sarah Hine, daughter of Willis and Esther (Perkins) Hine. She was born 14 Nov 1833, Gibson, PA, and died 7 Jan 1899, Gibson, PA.

Phoenix says the following:

". . . a farmer . . . . They settled in Gibson; moved to Jackson, Penn., in Ap. 1858, and to New Milford, in the same county, in Ap. 1860; and, in Ap. 1866, returned to Gibson, bought his father's homestead, and were living there in March 1874. He enlisted at New Milford, Penn., 15 Sept. 1862, in Co. B, 17th Reg., Penn. Vol. Cavalry; was made corporal, 6 Sept. 1864; was captured by Mosby's men, in the Shenandoah Valley, 29 Sept. 1864; was a prisoner at Salisbury, N.C., till 27 Feb. 1865, when he was paroled, and taken to Annapolis, Md., where he was discharged, 17 June 1865. His regiment was in fifty-seven engagements; but owing to sickness and captivity, his own list was somewhat less, including, however, the following: Chancellorsville, 30 Ap. to 2 May 1863; Beverly Ford, 9 June; Aldie, 16 June; Upperville, 21 June; Goose Creek, 22 June; Gettysburgh, 1 July; Williamsport, 6 July; Funktown, 7 July; Beaver Creek, 8 July; Boonsborough, 9 July; Falling Waters, 14 July; Rappahannock Station, 12 Oct.; Mine Run, 29 Nov. to 1 Dec.; Todd's Tavern, 7 and 8 May 1864; Yellow Tavern, 11 May; Meadow Bridge, 12 May; Hanovertown, 27 May; Hawes' Shop, 28 May; Old Church, 30 May; Cold Harbor, 31 May and 1 June; Trevillian Station, 11 and 12 June; White House, 21 June; Jones' Bridge, 23 June; Darbytown, 28 July; White Post, 11 Aug.; Cedarville, 15 Aug.; Berryville, 22 Aug.; Leetown, 28 Aug.; Smithfield, 29 Aug.; and Winchester, 19 Sept. 1864. He did not visit home from his enlistment till his discharge."

v. Harvey Thaddeus Whitney, b. 14 Nov 1871, Gibson, PA; m. Lena Eva Manzer.
