George7 Whitney (Israel6, Elisha5, Daniel4, Benjamin3, John2, John1), son of Israel6 and Mary Hopkins (Flagg) Whitney, was born 1 Nov 1832,[1] Lowell, MA, and died 29 Apr 1901, Nahant, MA (also recorded at Boston, MA), aged 68 years 5 months 28 days, of malignant disease of intestine, edema of lungs.[2]

He married firstly, 18 Jun 1862, Boston, MA, Mary Elizabeth Rea, daughter of William A. and Mary F. (-----) Rea.[3] She was born 27 Sep 1840, Boston, MA, and died 23 May 1864, Boston, MA, aged 23 years 1 month 26 days, of dropsy.[4]

He married secondly, 29 Dec 1880, Beverly, MA, Elizabeth8 Whitney, daughter of William Michael7 and Ann Augusta (Nourse) Whitney.[5] She was born 1 Nov 1849, Beverly, MA.

He was born in Lowell and his early life was as clerk in an E. India merchant's office in Boston, and later he went to Calcutta, where he was six or seven years a partner of Whitney Bros. & County, a firm still doing business there, transacted by his brothers. Of late years he has been president of the North National Union Bank, Boston, and before that, president of the North National Bank, and before he went to Calcutta he was a member of the firm of Lombard, Whitney & Company, East India merchants. Resided Boston, MA, National Union Bank, 40 State St.

In 1885 he was a president living at 239 Marlboro St., Boston, MA.

Richard Whitney, b. 1 Aug 1888, Beverly, MA (recorded Boston, MA);[9] d. 5 Dec 1974, Far Hills, NJ; m. 27 May 1916, Gertrude Alison (Sheldon) Sands, widow of Samuel Stevens Sands III, b. 19 May 1888, NY, daughter of George Rumsey and Mary R.
