Obituary: "Sept. 6 (1916)—Harriet R. Osborn was born December 23, 1849 near Beverly, OH. When a girl of about sixteen years she came to Illinois and settled near Woodhull (IL). She was married September 7, 1873 to George W. Whitney in Clover Chapel. To this union were born ten children, two of whom have preceded her to the great beyond. They are Ann Jane Whitney, deceased, William R. Whitney, Mary Luella Whitney, Harvey Ellsworth, John Henry, Martin Everett, deceased; Ocona Rose, Rebecca Eliza, Minnie Etta and Samuel Glenn. Mr. Whitney died in 1909. Mrs. Harriet Whitney joined the Christian church of Woodhull many years ago and was a faithful member and earnest worker. She died quite suddenly September 1, 1916 at her home being 64 years, 8 months and 9 days old. Her many friends and neighbors are saddened over her death and she will be greatly missed in the community. Her funeral was held in the M.E. church, Rev. S.A. Guthrie officiating. Interment was made in the Woodhull cemetery." Note: Her birthplace is incorrect. Her family was living in Ross County, Ohio in in 1850 and 1860.

The Whitney family migrated from Beverly, Washington Co., Ohio. Apparently Harriet and George W. Whitney moved to Iowa and returned to Woodhull by 1880. [1]
