He married, 13 May 1868 [Pierce] or 21 May 1867, Gardner or Westminster, MA, Lucy Ann Harrington, of Westminster, daughter of Daniel and Nancy (White) Harrington.[2] She was born 14 Sep 1848, Westminster, MA.

After leaving the Nashua high school he studied theology with Rev. H. Closson, of Cavendish, VT, and preached his first sermon (text Ps. lxi:2) on his twenty-first birthday. Removing to Massachusetts he was settled at W. Boylston, Westminster, Beverly (five years) and Quincy (six years). Apr 1878, he became pastor of the Augusta M. E. church, preaching his last sermon 2 Jan 1881. He was then prostrated by a severe hemorrhage, which led to his death in Waltham, MA, at his father's home, 26 May 1881. He was a ready and eloquent extempore preacher, a man of large sympathy and spirituality, and a very devoted pastor. He was a zealous member of the Masonic fraternity, being a Knight Templar. Augusta Lodge, of which he was chaplain, printed a series of very appreciative resolutions after his decease, and the religious and secular papers alluded to his work and character in terms of high praise.
