Hamilton Silas Whitney (Nicholas F., Josiah), son of Nicholas F. and Catharine Marie (Parks) Whitney, was born 2 Sep 1845, Canajoharie, NY, and died 4 Aug 1899, Wells, NY, aged 55 years. He was buried in Johnstown Cemetery, Johnstown, NY.[1]

He married firstly, Almira Owen, daughter of William and Eliza (-----) Owen. She was born Jan 1844, Fulton Co., NY, and died Feb 1886, Johnstown, NY. She was buried in Johnstown Cemetery, Johnstown, NY.[2]

He married secondly, 27 Jul 1886, Gloversville, NY, Martha Ann Shaw. She was born about 1845, and died 2 Mar 1903, Utica, NY. She was buried in Clarkville Cemetery, Edinburg, NY.[3]

He served as a Private in the Civil War in the 24th Independent Battery, New York Light Artillery, and Battery L, 3rd Regiment, New York Light Artillery. On 6 May 1880, he applied for a pension based on his service, Application #350,603, Certificate #704,317, and also Application #405,783. On 19 Sep 1899, his widow Martha A. Whitney applied for a pension based on his service, Application #705,758.

iii. Isabella Whitney, b. ca. 1873, Johnstown, NY; m. 14 Jan 1891, Orange, MA (recorded in Athol, MA), Welsey L. Frink, b. ca. 1870, Chesterfield, NH, son of Oscar and Emily (Eddy) Frink.[5]
iv. Charles Arthur Whitney, b. 26 Jan 1882, Johnstown, NY; d. 19 Nov 1961, New Haven, CT.
