Isaac4 Whitney (Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Nathaniel3 and Sarah (Ford) Whitney, was born 9 Mar 1720/1, York, ME,[1] and died 1800, Freeport, ME.[2]

Marriage intentions were published 25 Feb 1743, York, ME, for him and Sarah Crosby "both of York".[3] He married firstly, 5 Sep 1743, York, ME, Sarah Crosby, daughter of Dr. Jonathan and Hannah (Wicom) Crosby.[4] She was born 18 Jan 1724, Dover, NH. She died 23 Jun 1765, Gorham, ME.

He married secondly, 29 Aug 1765, Gorham, ME, Hannah (Lombard) Payne,[5] daughter of Jedediah and Hannah (Lewis) Lombard. She was born 4 Oct 1718, Truro, MA, and died before 1 Jan 1784. She had married firstly, 8 Mar 1739/40, Truro, MA, Jonathan Paine.

Marriage intentions for him "of Buxton" and "Mrs." Mary Walker "of Falmouth" were published 13 Dec 1783, Buxton, ME. He married thirdly, 1 Jan 1784, Gorham, ME, Mrs. Mary Walker, by Edward Phinney, Esq.[6]

Pierce says the following:[7]

He was born in York, where he resided until 1752, when he purchased a house and lot in Saco. In 1775 he was living in Buxton, Me., but died at the house of his son Henry, in Freeport, in 1800, aged 80. He married three times.

Willoughby says:

"Isaac Whitney (1720-1800) also married more than once; many women of that time died young, as our records prove. His first wife was Sarah Crosby, the mother of the ongoing Whitney line of this study. After her death at about age 32, Isaac remarried not once, but twice. By profession he was a housewright, or builder. He moved in 1750 to the town of Saco, where he purchased a lot from William Pepperell; two years later he sold this lot "and house thereon" (Folsom, History of Saco and Biddeford). Records show him in Biddeford in July of 1758 (York deeds), in Gorham about 1760 (McClellan, History of Gorham), and in Buxton about 1770. He died in Freeport, Maine. Among his six children were Stephen Whitney (# 8 of this study) and Isaac Whitney, Jr., who (like his brother) served in the American Revolution and later received a pension for that service.
"Sarah Crosby (1723/4-1765) was born in York, Maine. She married Isaac Whitney in 1743 (McClellan) and died in Gorham (New England Historical Genealogical Register, 30,60)"
