Family:Whitney, Jacob (1750-1843)

Jacob5 Whitney (David4, David3, Joshua2, John1), son of David4 and Mary (Gunn) Whitney,[1] was born 13 Apr 1750, Canaan, Connecticut,[2] and died 22 Sep 1843, Benton, Yates County, New York.[3]

He married firstly, 30 Dec 1773, New Paltz, New York, Mary Yelverton,[4] parentage unknown. She was born 1754,[5] and died before 1789, probably in New Paltz, New York.[6]

He married secondly, 22 Apr 1789, New Paltz, New York, Mabel (Pardee) Smith,[7], daughter of James and Ann (Wheeler) Pardee.[8] She was born 10 Mar 1762,[9] baptized 16 May 1762, New Fairfield, Connecticut,[10] and died after 1844.[11] She had married firstly, say 1783, Ebenezer Smith.[12]

"WHITNEY, Jacob, NY Line, Mabel, W20125, sol was b 22 Apr 1751 at Canaan in Litchfield Co CT & he m 1st Mary Yelverton 30 Dec 1773 & she was b in 1754, sol appl 6 Aug 1832 at Benton in Yates Co NY, sol had lived at New Paltz in Ulster Co NY when he enl & he lived there until 1810 then moved to Benton in Ontario Co NY (which was later in Yates Co NY), sol m 2nd to Mabel Smith 22 Apr 1789 & she was b 10 Mar 1762, sol's children's births shown were; Kezia b 10 Apr 1775, Sarah b 20 Oct 1777, Esther b 16 Feb 1780 & Mary b 12 Aug 1782, sol d 22 Sep 1843, wid appl 11 Apr 1844 at Benton MA, wid's sis Hannah Scriver aged 72 made aff'dt 11 Apr 1844 in Yates Co NY, one Kezia Rosecrantz aged 68 made aff'dt at Benton NY in 1844 & stated that Mabel Whitney as her "mother-in-law" however she stated she was present when her father Jacob Whitney m Mabel Smith (she evidently meant that sol's wid was her step-mother)"[13]

i. Kezia6 Whitney, b. 10 Apr 1775, New Paltz, New York; m. ----- Rosecrantz.
ii. Sarah Whitney, b. 20 Oct 1777, New Paltz, New York; perhaps m. Matthias Valentine.
iii. Esther Whitney, b. 16 Feb 1780, New Paltz, New York; no further record.
iv. Mary Whitney, b. 12 Aug 1782, New Paltz, New York; no further record.
