He lived at Bolton, Stow, and Lancaster, MA.
He left a will dated 3 Sep 1747, Stow, MA; wife Elizabeth; daughter Elizabeth Sawyer; daughter Sarah.
Pierce says the following:
- When the grant of the township of Bolton was made it was "ordered that Mr. John Whitney, a principal inhabitant of a new town, lately erected out of the town of Lancaster, in the county of Worcester, be and hereby is fully authorized and empowered to assemble the freeholders and other qualified voters there, as soon as may be, in some convenient place in said town, in order for their choosing a town clerk and all other town officers, to stand till the anniversary meeting of said town in March next." 1738. Her will is dated May 8, 1756, and was probated July 15, 1757.
