John6 Whitney (Josiah5, John4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Josiah5 and Hannah (Turner) Whitney, was born 1781, Toronto, Canada, or about 1791, Gaspe, Lower Canada, and died 1864, Chipman, NS. It should be mentioned that the Toronto mentioned by F.C. Pierce is probably not the Toronto, Canada known today. There is a possibility that there was an area of Gaspe known as "Toronto".

He married firstly Isabel -----.

He married secondly, Quebec, Margaret -----. She died 1832.

He was born in Toronto, Canada, was a farmer, and during the war of 1812 served in an English company, raised in Canada. He was a devout member of the Church of England, and in politics was a Conservative. He was granted a pension from Chelsea Hospital of 6d. sterling per day. He resided Sherbrook and Chipman, NS.
