John6 Whitney (Samuel5, John4, Henry3, John2, Henry1), son of Samuel5 and Mary (St. John) Whitney, was born 23 Aug 1781, Ballston, now Galway, NY, and died 7 Mar 1867, Ellisburgh, NY, and was buried in the Carpenter Cemetery, Henderson, NY.

He married firstly, 16 Dec 1804, Paris, NY, Patty Chase, daughter of Jeremiah and Esther5 (Whitney) Chase, and granddaughter of Richard4 and Esther (Clark) Whitney. She was born 9 Aug 1777, and died 13 Aug 1814, Henderson, NY, and was buried near Salisbury's Mills, now Henderson Village, or, according to another account, in the Carpenter Cemetery.

He married secondly, 20 Dec 1814, Henderson, NY, Polly6 Whitney, his second cousin, daughter of William5 and Sarah (Bundy) Whitney. She was born 27 Sep 1791, North Lee, MA, and dIed after 1880.

Phoenix says the following:

. . . a farmer . . . . They settled, 12 March 1806, at Henderson, N. Y., . . . . They moved, in April 1843, to Ellisburgh, N. Y., settling in the north-west part of the town, near Lake Ontario, where he died 7 March 1867, and was buried in Henderson, in the Carpenter Cemetery. She was living on the same place in 1874, with her son, John Almon Whitney, and gave valuable aid in the collection and arrangement of these records.

i. Allen7 Whitney, b. 18 Mar 1806, Henderson, NY; m.(1) Aramantha McDorman Wright; m.(2) Sarah Lake.
ii. Sophronia Whitney, b. 4 Dec 1807, Henderson, NY; d. 5 Feb 1809, Henderson, NY; was buried in a small graveyard in that town, which is no longer used. No gravestone can now be found.
iii. Richard Ostrom Whitney, b. 15 May 1811, Henderson, NY; m.(1) Laura Reed; m.(2) Elizabeth Hungerford.

Children of John6 and Polly (Whitney) Whitney:

iv. Albert Sylvanus Augustus St. John7 Whitney, b. 26 Dec 1815, Henderson, NY; a farmer; was living, in 1880, with his mother, and brother John, on his father's homestead in the north-west corner of Ellisburgh, NY, unmarried.
v. Cynthia Sophronia Whitney, b. 12 Feb 1818, Henderson, NY; m. Calvin Hall.
vi. Clarissa Polly Whitney, b. 21 Jun 1820, Henderson, NY; m. 19 Jun 1857, Ellisburgh, NY, by Elder Michael Freeman, Baptist, at his parsonage, Arunah Brown, a carpenter, joiner and farmer, born at Lorraine, NY, 30 Mar 1822, son of Walter and Abigail (Risley) Brown. They lived in Ellisburgh, near Rural Hill post-office, in 1874, without children.
vii. Mary Ann Whitney, b. 7 Sep 1822, Henderson, NY; m. Oscar Fitserland Hathaway.
viii. Patty Maria Whitney, b. 27 Dec 1824, Henderson, NY; m. 12 Feb 1843, at her father's house in Henderson, by Albert A. Davis, Esq., to Egbert Sylvester Vorce, a sailor, born in Dover, NY, 16 Mar 1818, son of John Baker and Phebe (Boice) Vorce, who lived in Ellisburgh, NY, at the time of his marriage. They dwelt in Ellisburgh, in 1874, without children.
ix. John Almon Whitney, b. 10 May 1827, Henderson, NY; m. Margaret Chawgo.
x. Samuel Green Whitney, b. 26 Oct 1829, Henderson, NY; m. Harriet Doty Tower.
xi. William Alfred Whitney, b. 16 Feb 1834, Henderson, NY; m. Anna Amanda Fellows.
