John H. Whitney (George W.), son of George W. and Mary (Van Wie) Whitney), was born 1 Sep 1843, Erie Co., NY, and died after 1865, apparently 8 Jan 1910, Falconer, NY.[1] He was buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Magnolia, NY.[2]
He married, before 1879, Bertha Stoffel. She was born 12 Apr 1859, PA, and died 13 Dec 1939, Jamestown, NY.[3] She was buried in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Lakewood, NY.[4]
In the Civil War he served as a Private in Co. D, 72nd New York Infantry, enlisting 28 May 1861, and discharged 20 Jun 1864.
He is listed as born 1 Sep 1843, die 17 Dec 1910, enlisted 23 May 1861, discharged 19 Jun 1864.[5]
They resided in Bradford, PA, and Jamestown, NY.
