John Henry9 Whitney (John Marble8, Daniel7, Daniel6, Daniel5, Richard4, Richard3, Richard2, John1), son of John Marble8 and Hannah E. (Whitmarsh) Whitney, was born 1 Feb 1851, Concord, MA [given name omitted],[1] or Stow, MA, and died 13 Dec 1887, Newton, MA, aged 36 years 10 months 7 days, of diphtheria.[2]

He married, 25 Mar 1875, Maynard, MA, Margaret Dawson, daughter of James and Margaret (-----) Dawson.[3] She was born about 1853, Canada, and died after 1900.

She resided in Milford, MA.

ii. Eleanor Dawson Whitney, b. 7 Nov 1877, Auburndale (Newton), MA;[6] d. 7 Apr 1953, San Diego, CA, m. Harry Lawrence10 Whitney (they were only very distantly related), q.v.
iii. Harriet Maud Whitney, b. 2 Aug 1879, Newton, MA;[7] m. 1 Jun 1909, Central Falls, RI (recorded Beverly, MA), James Henry Durgin, b. ca. 1868, Freeport, ME, son of Ezekiel A. and Margaret (McGregor) Durgin.[8]
iv. Frank W. Whitney, b. 7 Nov 1883, Newton, MA.[9]
v. Arthur Whitney, b. 4 Nov 1884, Newton, MA;[10] d. 14 Dec 1887, Newton, MA. aged 2 years, 9 months 24 days, of diphtheria.[11]
vi. Henrietta Arthur Whitney, b. 1888, Auburndale, MA, m. 6 Nov 1910, Natick, MA (also recorded in Beverly), Edwin Naylor, b. ca. 1884, Natick, son of John and Althea (Griffith) Naylor.[12]
