Marriage intentions were published, 20 Jan 1864, Freedom, ME, for him and Zubia E. Keen, "both of Freedom". He married Zubietta E. Keen, daughter of Thomas S. Keen. She was born 14 Aug 1846, Freedom, Waldo Co., ME, and died 5 Feb 1934, Manchester, NH.
Joseph and Zubietta are both buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Freedom, ME.
George C. Whitney appears in the family as a 13 year old in 1880. However, he does not appear in the family in 1870. He may be adopted.
