Lewis Gillmore9 Whitney (Levi B.8, Moses7, Moses6, Ephraim5, Moses4, Moses3, Richard2, John1), son of Levi B.8 and Abigail R. (Wilkins) Whitney, was born 19 Dec 1838, Waterford, ME, and was killed 6 May 1864, shot in the head at the Battle of the Wilderness [sic].

He married, 20 Aug 1859, York Co., ME, Elizabeth M. Keaton, "both of Biddeford".[1] She was born about 1832, and died 13 Jul 1891, Biddeford, ME. She married secondly, 11 Oct 1868, Biddeford, ME, Oliver Spaulding9 Whitney, his younger brother.

He enlisted in Co. I, 17th Maine Infantry, 18 Aug 1862, aged 24 years, mustered out 4 Jun 1865 [sic], Washington, DC, was wounded, was taken prisoner of war 3 May 1863, and survived the war [sic]. On 1 May 1899, his father applied for a pension based on his service, #421,650.

Children of Lewis Gillmore9 and Elizabeth M. (Keaton) Whitney, if any, unknown.
