Peter6 Whitney (Jonas5, Jonas4, Moses3, Richard2, John1), son of Jonas5 and Zebudah (Davis) Whitney, was born 17 Aug 1772, Harvard, MA,[1] and died 10 Oct 1826, Gray, ME, aged 54 years (g.s.).

Intentions of marriage were published 15 Sep 1797, Southborough, MA, for him and Joanna Newhall "of Leominster".[2] He "of Southborough" married, 3 Oct 1797, Leominster, MA, Joanna Newhall,[3] daughter of Michael and Joanna (Collins) Newhall. She was born 7 Sep 1775, Bolton, MA, and died 2 May 1841, Gray, ME (g.s.).

He was also known as Dr. Peter Whitney. According to Pierce, Peter "went to Maine".

Peter owned a pew in the early 1800's at the First Parish Congregational Church in Gray, ME.

i. Aura7 Whitney, b. 6 Feb 1798, Leominster, MA; d. 17 Apr 1836, Gray, ME (g.s.).
ii. Cynthia Whitney, b. 9 Feb 1800, Gray, ME.
iii. Cephas Whitney, b. 19 Feb 1802, Gray, ME; M.D., 1825, Bowdoin College and the Medical School of Maine, Brunswick, ME; "Dr." d. 22 Jun 1826, aged 24 years (g.s.).
iv. Amos Newhall Whitney, b. 26 Nov 1805, Gray, ME; m.(1) Mary Wyer Jones; divorced; m.(2) Dorothy Franklin.
v. Mary Farnsworth Whitney, b. 23 or 28 Apr 1810, Gray, ME; d. 9 Apr or 19 Feb 1830, Gray, ME (g.s.). Apparently she was named for her mother's sister, Mary (Collins) Farnsworth. Julia ended up with the cross stitch of her sister Mary's, dated 22 Sep 1818.
vi. Julia Ann Whitney, b. 24 Aug 1814, Gray, ME; d. 14 Feb 1889, Gray, ME (cemetery records); m.(1) 20 Aug 1832, Gray, ME, Freeman Waterhouse; divorced Apr 1839, Cumberland Co., ME; m.(2) 20 May 1839, Gray, ME, Thomas Cary.
