Philbrook7 Whitney (Jabez6, Jacob5, Jonas4, Eleazar3, Thomas2, John1), son of Jabez6 and Sarah (Savoy) Whitney, was born 26 Nov 1820, Orange, MA,[1] and died 11 Apr 1862, Charlestown, MA, aged 42 years, of consumption, laborer.[2]

He married, about 1841, Sarah A. Green. daughter of John Green. She was born about 31 Mar 1826, Petersham or Prescott, MA, and died 10 Jun 1873, Northfield, MA, aged 47 years 2 months 10 days, of a tumor.[3]. There evidently was a divorce. She "Mrs.", of New Salem, MA, married secondly, 25 Mar 1855, Vernon, VT, Harrison Moore of Northfield, MA,[4] son of William and Hannah (Drake) Moore, as his second wife (1808-1892).

On 16 Sep 1853, Justice Charles A. Dewey of the Supreme Judicial Court sentenced Philbrook Whitney of New Salem to be hanged for the murder of John R. Weeks.[5]

"Philbrook Whitney has been tried at Greenfield, Mass., for the murder of Chas. R. Weeks. He was found guilty, and ordered for execution, at such time after the expiration of one year from the day of passing of this sentence, as the Executive Government of this state may by their warrant appoint." - The Daily Times, 20 Sep 1853.

Nevertheless, he survived until 1862, dying of consumption.
