Notes

His parents Samuel and Martha (-----) Whitney are named in his death record, but nothing has been found to identify such a couple having children in 1796 in Norwalk, CT. His son George's death certificate says that Ransford was born in Newark, NJ.

It seems remotely possible that his parents could have been Samuel6 and Eunice (Wellman) Whitney of Jamaica, VT; that man's second wife and step-mother of his older children was Martha (Parmenter) Whitney.
