Roswell Van Buren Whitney (John), son of John and Phebe (Sawins) Whitney, was born 1 Dec 1845, Mearburg, NY, and died 22 Feb 1884, IA [but the FindAGrave record says 1895, and he appears in the 1900 census, below], or 25 Aug 1911, Lyman Co., SD.[1] He is buried in Diamond Cemetery, Hale, IA.[2]

He married, 19 Mar 1865, Jones Co., IA, Amanda Simpson,[3] daughter of Matthias Q. and Elizabeth A. (-----) Simpson. She was born 15 Nov 1847, Canton, IA, and died 8 Sep 1893. She is buried in Diamond Cemetery, Hale, IA.[4]
