Samuel Platt5 Whitney (Uriah4, Nathan3, John2, Henry1), son of Uriah4 and Martha (Hart) Whitney, was born 8 Nov 1775, Simsbury, CT, and died 15 Dec 1871, Montville, OH, aged 96 years 1 month 7 days.

He married, 10 Mar 1799, North Granby, CT, Lois Buttles, daughter of Jonathan and Lois (Viets) Buttles. She was born 18 Mar 1782, Granby, CT, and died after Aug 1874.

Phoenix says the following:

Samuel Platt Whitney, b. at Simsbury, Conn., 8 Nov. 1775; a farmer; moved, with his father, to East Granville, Mass., in 1795; married by Judah Holcomb, Esq., at her father's house in North Granby, Conn., 10 March 1799, to Lois Buttles, born at Granby, Conn., 18 March 1782, dau. of Jonathan and Lois (Viets) Buttles. They lived in East Granville, Mass., till 1834, and then settled in Montville, Ohio, where he died 15 Dec. 1871, aged 96 years 1 month and 7 days, and was buried at Montville Centre.
It is said that he was three days too young to vote for electors in 1796, but voted at every succeeding presidential election, till his death.
They celebrated their "diamond wedding," at the house of their son, John Viets Whitney, in Montville, 11 March 1870, when their descendants were reported to number as follows: 12 children, of whom 9 were living; 57 grandchildren, of whom 41 were living; and 56 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Whitney still lived, in Aug. 1874, at Montville, 92 years old.

iii. Jonathan Rasselas Whitney, b. 30 Jun 1804, East Granville, MA; m.(1) Maria Louisa Moors; m.(2) Jane Culver.
iv. Agnes Whitney, b. 28 Mar 1806, East Granville, MA; "Annis" m.(1) 18 Dec 1828, Granby, CT, Horace Gillett;[2] m.(2) Richard Steer.
v. Marcus Israel Whitney, b. 8 Feb 1808, East Granville, MA; m. Susan Abigail Tryon.
vi. William Lewis Whitney, b. 17 Jun 1809, East Granville, MA; m. Emeline Holcombe.
vii. Seth Whitney, b. 19 Jul 1812, East Granville, MA; m.(1) Mary Batchelder; m.(2) Lucinda Tucker.
viii. Nelson Whitney, b. 1 Oct 1814, East Granville, MA; d. 7 or 11 Oct 1835, Southwick, MA, aged 22 years;[3] was buried in Elisha Steer's family cemetery, at Southwick, but afterward removed to the South-east parish cemetery in East Granville, MA.
ix. John Veits Whitney, b. 31 Dec 1816, East Granville, MA; m. Mary Lansing.
x. Lucy Susanna Whitney, b. 28 Feb 1819, East Granville, MA; d. 13 Dec 1828, Granville, MA, aged 9 years, or 14 Dec 1827, East Granville, MA, aged 8 years;[4] was buried in the Southeast parish cemetery.
xi. Harriet Atwood Whitney, b. 4 May 1821, East Granville, MA; m. Samuel Rhodes.
xii. Lurena Whitney, b. 14 Jul 1824, East Granville, MA; m. Homer Buttles Everett.
