Samuel Wix Whitney (John), son of John and Rebecca (Blodgett) Whitney, was born 27 Oct 1805, Onondaga, NY, and died 29 Jan 1874, Iowa Falls, IA. He was buried in Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls, IA.[1]

He married 14 or 24 Feb 1829, Loranda B. Jones, daughter of Andrew Braddock and Esther Hart (Baldwin) Jones. She was born 11 Nov 1808, Westvillle, NY, and died 22 Oct 1890, Iowa Falls, IA.

Her obituary. "Iowa Falls Sentinel", Iowa Falls, Hardin Co, Iowa, Oct 22, 1890:

"DIED--At the home of her daughter in Iowa Falls, Wednesday, Oct 22, 1890, Mrs L. B. Whitney (Loranda Jones), aged 82 years. Mrs Whitney was born in Westfield, Chenango Co, NY (s/b Westville, Otsego Co, NY), Nov 11, 1808. Her maiden name was Jones. She was married to S. W. Whitney Feb 24, 1829. In 1844 she moved to Wisconsin and in 1859 came to Iowa Falls, where she has since lived with her children, Mr and Mrs Charles Foote. Mrs Whitney joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1860 and for thirty years has been a faithful and consistent member, dying with full trust and confidence in her Redeemer.
"She leaves behind her four children, one son and three daughters. Mother Whitney was respected and loved by all who knew her and her circle of acquaintances was large, having been a resident of this place for 31 years."
