Walter6 Whitney (Josiah5, Eliasaph4, Nathan3, John2, Henry1), son of Josiah5 and Mary (Smith) Whitney, was born 25 May 1803, Darien, CT,[1] and died 19 Sep 1852, Darien, CT, of dysentery. He was buried in Darien, CT.

He married, 11 Feb 1827, Norwalk, CT, Caroline Matilda Disbrow,[2] daughter of John and Priscilla (Mallory) Disbrow. She was born Westport, CT, and died 9 Feb 1875, Darien, CT.

Phoenix says the following:

"Walter Whitney, b. in Darien, Conn., 25 May 1803; married, 11 Feb. 1827, at Norwalk, Conn., Caroline Matilda Disbrow, who was born at Westport, Conn., dau. of John and Priscilla (Mallory) Disbrow. They settled in Darien, where she died 9 Feb. 1875. He died in the same place, 19 Sept. 1852, of dysentery, and was buried there. 'He was an honored and influential member of the Congregational Church in Darien; one of its deacons, and a great helper both in its financial and spiritual prosperity; a man of exemplary and devoted piety, and the fragrance of his good name yet lingers among the people.'"

ii. Francis Newton Whitney, b. 9 Feb 1830, Darien, CT; "Frank" d. 9 Feb 1877, at the Consumptives' Home, Boston, MA, aged 46 years, of phthisis;[3] resided 711 Third Street, Philadelphia, PA, in Feb 1874; unmarried.
iii. Julia Ann Whitney, b. 9 Mar 1835, Darien, CT; m. John Orlando Miner.
iv. Caroline Amelia Whitney, b. 19 Oct 1836, Darien, CT; m. Benjamin Warren Card.
v. Orlando Whitney, b. 23 Sep 1840, Darien, CT; bapt. 5 Mar 1841, Darien, CT; m. Mary Stickney Couch.
vi. John Howard Whitney, b. 21 Feb 1843, Darien, CT; bapt. 23 Jul 1843, Darien, CT; a farmer till 4 Oct 1869, afterward a teacher; was living at Darien, CT, 1880; unmarried.
