Washington9 Whitney (William8, William7, William6, William5, William4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of William8 and Dulcena (Turner) Whitney, was born 23 Dec 1832, Templeton, MA, and died 13 Jan 1917, Springfield, MA, aged 84 years 21 days, of arteriosclerosis.

He married, 26 Oct 1852, Barre, MA, Sarah Avaline Hobbs, daughter of William and Elmira (Grimes) Hobbs. She was born 15 May 1833, Hubbardston, MA, and died 27 Aug 1909, Springfield, MA, aged 76, of carcinoma of the liver.[1]

He was listed as a mechanic in the marriage record, then a farmer, and then a manufacturer of wood items.

They resided Springfield, MA; P.O. box 222.

ii. Effie Hobbs Whitney, b. 28 Jul 1874, Winchendon, MA;[4] d. 3 Mar 1939, Springfield, MA; bur. Pine Grove Cemetery, Middletown, CT; m. 20 Feb 1917, Springfield, MA, Charles Stillman Whitney, son of William Smith and Virginia M. (Stillman) Whitney. No issue.
