Family:Whitney, William (1701-a1753)

William⁴ Whitney (William³, Joshua², John¹), son of William³ and Lydia (Perham) Whitney,^[1] was born 5 May 1701, Groton, MA,^[2] and died after 1753, Canaan, CT.^[3]

He married 16 Jul 1723, Killingly, CT, Mary Whitmore,^[4] daughter of Thomas and Mary (Waters) Whitmore.^[5] She was born 4 Sep 1700, Cambridge, MA,^[6] and died after 1741.^[7]

It was probably he who married, secondly, 28 Jun 1753, Sharon, CT, Elizabeth Chapman.^[8]

"He was born In Groton, Mass., and removed to Connecticut with his parents when quite young. Settling in Killingly he resided there until after his marriage, when he moved to Canaan, not far from 1753. He was a cooper by trade, but followed farming nearly all the latter part of his life. While residing in Killingly, in 1728, he was elected a member of the first board of surveyors. Res. Killingly and Canaan, Conn."^[9]
