William Fleming9 Whitney (William Glenny8, Ruluff7, Christopher6, William5, William4, William3, Joshua2, John1), son of William Glenny8 and Melvina (Fleming) Whitney, was born 2 Nov 1843, Portsmouth, OH, and died after 1880.

He married, 15 May 1871, Lizzie M. Jones. She was born 15 May 1845, OH, and died after 1880.

William Fleming Whitney, clerk of the courts of Scioto County, OH, was born in Portsmouth, where he has always resided. He attended the public schools in his native city and the Bryant & Stratton business college in Cincinnati. After his graduation he was a clerk and later a bookkeeper. He entered the county clerk's office as deputy in 1867 and has continued to serve the county in some capacity since that time. In 1883 he was appointed clerk, and in 1889 was elected to that position and re-elected in 1893. He has been a member of the school board for six years. In May 1864, he enlisted in Company E, 140th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and served for a short time. He is a Knight Templar, member of the G. A. R. and Elks; resided Portsmouth, OH.
