Nov 1957, "Mr. and Mrs. Frederic W. Whitney of 34 Park street will observe their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Nov. 2….Frederic William Whitney and May Belle Eldred were married November 2, 1907 in Hillsdale by the Rev. William L. Laughman, pastor of the Methodist church. They spent the first 10 years of their married life in farming the Whitney homestead near Allen. They then moved to Adrian where they operated a general store five years, after which Mr. Whitney was engaged in construction work in Detroit for five more years. He sufftred[sic] injuries in 1922 which forced him to quit his construction work and they then moved to a farm just east of Quincy. He retired from farming 15 years ago and they moved to Quincy. Mr. Whitney’s grandfather, Jonathan Whitney, moved from New York state to Allen township in 1839 when there were but 11 families living in the area. His father, William G. Whitney, was the first white male child born in the township. Mrs. Whitney’s father, John Eldred, moved to Allen township from Lenawee county in 1860. Mr. and Mrs. Whitney are both members of the Methodist church of Allen, and he is a life member of the Allen Masonic blue lodge, also the Chapter and Council."
