From: <ALLAGREEN -at- aol.com> Subject: Re: possible solution to GEDCOM problems... Date: Sun, 31 Aug 1997 23:24:49 -0400 (EDT) Hi Larry: I'm one of those who had a problem with Witney12. I did exactly as you were describing, went into PAF3 and created a new "filename" - then went to Import and called up the gedcom from the AOL25/Download/ sub-directory. It began working, and at least 30 to 40 minutes later I got a beep and an error message, and when I clicked on the OK button in the error message, the Import application stopped. I had something like 7256 individuals in my new "database" - and no marriages. All the parent/child connections were there, but no marriage data whatsoever. I asked Jon for advice, but he just sent me a new copy of 12 - in case there was a stray electron somewhere in the first one I downloaded. Just took that one in last night late, and have not yet tried to convert it to a file. It has exactly the same number of bytes as the first one. I'll wait to see if you have any ideas about this before I try the next conversion. If I get the error message again, would you or any other computer-expert WRG members have any ideas about how to search for the error in the gedcom file, so I could either fix it or cut it out and get the rest of everything? Genealogy I know something about. Computers are just supposed to sit here and do what I tell them to!! Allan
