Michael Poston" <poston -at- helix.nih.gov> Subject: Another orphan Whitney line Date: Wed, 24 Sep 1997 08:41:44 -0400 (EDT) A cousin reports that he has this line: Willard Whitney, born circa 1836, married Clara __?__ (born ca. 1839) i.Ella Whitney, born ca. 1865 ii.Leland W. Whitney, born ca. 1869. [Leland W. Whitney. No primary record can be found of the parents of Leland Whitney. However, in the 1870 Federal Census, at Corinth, Maine there is listed Willard Whitney, age 34; wife Clara, age 31; Ella, age 5; and Leland W., age 1.] Leland W. Whitney married Mary R. (Minnie) Chandler, daughter of John Buren Chandler and Aurelia York, 5 March 1895, in Corinth, Penobscot, Maine. Minnie was born 9 June 1867 and died 22 February 1944. i.Walter Blanchard Whitney, born 5 October 1903, died 26 November 1984, in Tacoma, Pierce, Washington. He married first, Gail Preston, and second Bernice Horton, 31 Dec 1938. He had no children by either marriage although he was stepfather to Bernice's children by her first marriage, Lorraine and Donald Adams. Can anyone tie Willard to any branch of the Whitneys?
