I'm trying to find the intersection of the Downs portion of my family to the the Whitney family. I have photocopies of an affidavit describing my grandfather, Joseph Whitney Ganson being born in Jersey City, NJ as stated by copy of page 2454 of the 'Whitney family of Connecticut Geneology'. I was wondering where I could find this Whitney family of CT Geneaology. Also the my grandfather's maternal grandfather was named John Whitney Downs (d1878 Branford, Ontario). I wonder if this John Whitney Downs's mother had a maiden name of Whitney. That would be the link providing me the ability to go further back on this line. Can anyone help or suggest sources?
