(Whitney) Thatcher, 74, of 52 Brookline St., died yesterday at Birchwood Care Center, Fitchburg, after an illness. She leaves two sons, David S. Thatcher of Brookline, N.H., and James R. Thatcher of Amherst, N.H.; two daughters, Anne M. Adams of Townsend and Janet L. Philbrick of Ashby; a brother, Donald Whitney of Newton, Kan.; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Edward R. Whitney Jr. and Woodrow L. Whitney, predeceased her. She was born in Brattleboro, Vt., daughter of Edward R. and Rita May (Clough) Whitney. She lived in Townsend for 56 years. Mrs. Thatcher was a member of the Townsend Congregational Church. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Townsend Congregational Church, 7 Brookline St. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 250 Main St.
