From: <ALLAGREEN -at- aol.com> Subject: Re: [WHITNEY-L] Whitneys of Surrey Date: Tue, 15 Jun 1999 14:58:23 EDT Dear Patricia: I have the CD's from the LDS Church on the British Vital Records, and I just checked them. I found no entries for a birth for Joseph J. Whitney, no marriage for either him or a Hannah Reed, no birth for an Emma Whitney or a marriage for her either. This does NOT mean that none of that happened, just that it isn't on the CD's. Have you tried the IGI at the LDS website? If you do, be sure to be wary of events marked Births and Deaths. Most, if not all, of them come from individual submissions, not from actual records of events at the time they took place. On the other hand, christenings, marriages and burials do mostly come from the transcriptions of the microfilmed Parish Registers. Watch the film number. If it begins with a letter of the alphabet, and is not just numbers, it will have come from a Parish Register source (at least that is what I was told). As I was going through the search I mentioned above, I noted that there were very few Surrey records included, so don't dismay. Allan E. Green
