The connection of John-1 WHITNEY with the WHITNEY family of Whitney-on-the-Wye, Herefordshire, has been disproved. The name of his grandfather is currently not known. For details of the disproof, I suggest visiting the following website: <http://www.whitneygen.org/families/johnw/ancestry.html> There may be a different connection, but if so, what it might be is not known. He may also be descended from a different WHITNEY family of Coole Pilate, Cheshire, but again, proof is lacking. Regards, Robert Robert L.
