The following is from the: "Mechanic Street Cemetery Selected Burials Land on the north side of Mechanic street (much different then than it is now) was the second official municipal cemetery used by Worcester. Originally it was known as New Cemetery. The first burial was the 6 month old son of Rev. Leonard Worcester who died July 1, 1795." Capt. Joshua Whitney, May 7, 1809, aged 72; his wife Mary, July 4, 1796, aged 55; and his widow Abigail, Oct. 6, 1838, aged 94. He was father of Israel Whitney, and lived in the ancient house, corner of Cambridge and Millbury streets, near what was the "Whitney-lock" in Blackstone canal times. Paul of San Diego
